PROCESS:

Polyester rugs need vacuuming on both sides every few weeks to keep dirt from staining the rug fibres. Those in high traffic areas need to be vacuumed multiple times a week.

To deep clean, mix a mild soap or rug cleaner in cold water and give your rug a thorough wash with several buckets of water making sure to check the soap and its reaction on the colour of the rug.

Use a soft brush to lather the soap mixture on to the rug and let the soap sit on it for a few minutes. Make sure you’ve thoroughly washed away the soap, and the runoff water is clear.

After the rug has been completely rinsed, roll the rug up tight and stand it upright for several minutes to remove excess water.

Unroll the rug and leave it under the sun to dry.

STAIN REMOVAL:

Remove any excess moisture or debris from the spot. Take a clean towel to blot liquids or scoop out the solid debris. Mix mild detergent in water. Sponge the blot with this detergent water taking care not to rub the stain further into the rug. Clean the sponge and repeat the process until the stain is gone. Rinse the rug with clean water to remove all the soap. Dry the rug on both sides before putting it away.

MAINTENANCE TIPS:

  • Remove dirt and spills quickly before they have time to settle in.
  • Keep shaking the rug powerfully holding it by its four corners until no further dirt or debris comes out from the rug.
  • For a large rug, hang it over a railing, fence or clothesline. Beat it with a strong stick to remove all the dirt and debris.
